Frequently Asked Questions:

What is Functional Nutrition?
Functional Nutrition is just that; focusing on feeding the body nutrition so it can function the way it was meant to. ‘Functioning’ meaning focusing on the three non-negotiables; sleep, poop, and blood sugar. Together, through my functional nutrition practice we identify and address the underlying root causes of your health issues rather than just manage symptoms.

Am I a good candidate to receive your functional nutrition counseling?

You are if you are experiencing issues and have had little to no success, you want help with a specific health concern, you are tired of feeling sick and tired, you don’t know what’s happening but something just doesn’t feel right, or you simply want to increase energy and feel better about your body. I provide a safe and nurturing space for you, my clients feel extremely comfortable under my guidance, and you will learn what is happening inside your body through a fun-loving experience.

Will I need to take any supplements when working with you?

The short answer is no. Functional nutrition emphasizes the power of food to promote health and healing. We focus on nutrient-dense whole foods. Through functional nutrition we aim to feed our bodies using food as medicine first. Supplements are only added to support the individuals when/if the body is still nutrient-deficient, aiming to bring the body from deficiency to sufficiency. For a quick example, I don’t take any medications at all, however, my body isn’t producing Vitamin D. So I take a daily supplement. And I am only taking it until I discover why my body isn’t functioning properly. Supplements are meant to be temporary; just like medication.

Will I need to go on a specific diet while working with you?

What we’ll come up with is specifically tailored to your individual and unique needs, considering your existing diet, lifestyle, and health concerns. Over time we will remove and add specific foods that inhibit your body to fully function only as needed. Remember, slow and steady wins the race.

Will a functional nutrition counselor work with my primary care physician and/or other health care providers?

Absolutely, yes I can! As a certified functional nutrition counselor, I am the liaison between your medical team and you. In addition, the tools I use within my practice provide a holistic view and can be extremely helpful when my clients are communicating with their health care team. I encourage my clients to take these tools to their appointments. They have their files and you have yours. And yours is a holistic view of you, that you can all gain from.

Will I need to provide medical labs?

Not necessary at all. In some in-depth cases, it can be helpful, but not necessary at all. Through my functional nutrition counseling process, we assess through a comprehensive intake form and a series of sessions. These initial sessions provide me the foundation to help you get from where you are to where you want to be.
